    Between two capes

April 2014, Margaret River, Western Australia

Somewhere in wine country among two metre rogue reds and sharks skirting the lines. Black powder sand and bauxite dust. My feet sunk in golden beaches. Heat radiated off the West. I sucked down the last of my hot water. A boiling snake of asphalt twisted out of the scrub. I stiff-walked into a resort and asked if I could use their tap.

Megafauna and stromatolites had breathed and baked under this same sun. It threw a last burst of rippling spears of light across the sky as dolphins played in sighing waves.

Time shattered these rocks. They were in the millions while I was counting down this round of a hundred years. Wandering in the heat. Dying of thirst. Orange. At peace alone.
